To Convince Him To Greece, Movie Reviews

08-10-2011 by dewit

Sex, drugs and rock n’ roll is a theme that had been used a lot in the movies or should I say overused but I had yet to see one that surely rocks. Well, until I saw Get Him to the Greek. The movie takes the theme of rock n’ roll in a not so serious fashion and yes the movie rocks and more than that it leaves you laughing so hard from start to finish as I can say that his movie is really funny and entertaining.

From the opening scenes, you can clearly conclude where the movie is going to, at least the plot. A multimillion-hit rocker Aldus Snow(Russell Brand) is being shown in the opening scenes of the film as already on the verge of going down the drains. His last single had been a flop, an insult and a failure and then the whole house came down in a rockstar fashion, wife left him etc. Then came Aaron Green(Jonah Hill), an intern in a recording label who proposed to his boss, Sergio Roma(Sean Combs) to get his idol Aldus Snow to play in the Greek Theater in Los Angeles for a tenth anniversary performance. We know what happens next as it is really not difficult to guess. Aaron was ordered to fetch Aldus from London and “get him to the Greek” where the events did not turn quite alright and the comedy and laughing mayhem ensued.

The three main cast in this film, Brand, Jonah Hill and Diddy Combs are downright funny in their roles and in their particular performances. I was taken aback with the performance of Diddy since as far as I can remember this must be his first comedy film, he delivered a stellar comic performance as Sergio though I cannot say that it was really an excellent act but at least not bad for a first time. For Russell Brand, I can say that he is awesome. This is only the second film that I saw with him on it but I can safely say that he is consistent in his comic roles. The same can be said of Jonah Hill as he plays the serious-bent-on-getting-the-job-done assistant who succumb to the antics of his ward, he performed exceedingly good and funny. The supporting cast cannot be faulted as well for they had contributed to the success of the movie as a whole. Read the rest of this entry »

Movie Review The Killers

29-09-2011 by dewit

The title itself is a suspect because in all artistic sense who would create a supposedly romance-comedy movie and give it a title like that? Well, only the people behind this movie does. The concept for this movie is somewhat good though as it gives a new twist to the boy meets girl and lived happilly ever after plot. Not your usual love story as it combines the elements of a love story with the usual laughs mixed with some action to pepper it. The film opens with Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl), after breaking up with her boyfriend, travels to Nice, France together with her parents (Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara). Girl meets boy Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher) accidentally in an elevator where girl eventually loses her composure and goes on doing a couple of stupid acts. Spencer, a CIA undercover agent on a mission, does what spies/undercover agents supposedly do, charm an awestruck woman by inviting her to a dinner. So the story goes, Spencer eventually decided that he had found the love of his life and gave up his being a an undercover agent/killer for marital bliss or so he thought. Fast forward to 3 years living together in the suburbs in the US with a legitimate job the film showed that the couple are doing well emotionally and financially that is. The plot suddenly twisted after Spencer’s 30th birthday as he found himself under attack by one of his office colleagues and much to his surprise, the assailant confessed that Spencer has a bounty for his head, a whooping 20 million dollars. In a fit of mixed paranoia, Spencer found himself torn between trying to figure out who the would be next assassin, which is just everyone else in the neighborhood, and dealing with Jen’s incessant nagging sort of brewing domestic trouble. Jen somehow getting over her prejudices against her husband goes out to help him track his killers. In the end, they found out that it was Jen’s father who put the contract on Spencer as he was the latter’s target way back in Nice. All things came to a stop when Jen told her father that he was going to be a grandfather. And they live happily ever after. I cannot seem to find any merits to this movie. A half-baked spy thriller-action-comedy-romance put together is a recipe for disaster. Put in the lack of chemistry between Kutcher and Heigl and you are in for the surprise of your life. I would admit that the people behind this movie had good intentions. But it seems that the joke in the movie had been directed towards the viewers. The movie is not funny to be categorized as a comedy, not romantic for a supposedly love story which is already bad enough, put in the action/spy thriller part and you are in for the most yawning episode in movie watching. Well, there had been good moments though that can make you laugh one or two as far as I can remember especially when it is the turn of Catherine O’Hara and Tom Selleck. Aside from that, it will be hard to find good merits from the movie. Overall, the plot is a story of a movie gone bad. Maybe that was why they gave it its title, Killers.

A Panoramic View Of The Hindi Film Industry

27-09-2011 by dewit

Unlike other Medias, films are treated “the strongest media” in its genre. The main reason of it is – writers, producers or directors can represent their thoughts with audiovisual media for masses. Unlike printed media it is acceptable for every level of society especially for third world countries or developing countries, where the rate of literacy is poor. Movies can be easily accessible by different formats by each individual. With wrapping with entertainment, the producers’ will represents their thoughts to viewer’s mind. Over the years, they implement their thoughts what ever it may be – social awareness, corruption or any other social disputes and abnormal human behaviors and alert the audiences about them.

Hindi film industry commonly known ad “Bollywood” inspired from one and only “Hollywood”. Hindi movies have been recognized as part of Indian culture and its traditions for a long time. It is gradually, changing its dimensions with advancement of Indian lifestyles, new starts, influence of other movies, literatures and music. Now a day, Hindi movie change its shape radically. In older days, Hindi films produced with real issues and classic novels like – political issues, humanity, love for the country and many others. However, the tradition goes on but the scenario is changed dramatically. Today’s filmmakers making there films with political matters, but the matter is not only a national political issue but also international political issues and their effects. Terrorism is another burning issue for nearly every county, so, Hindi filmmakers penetrate on this, as a result of this – Hindi film or Bollywood films simply win the cross border audience’s heart. Hindi movies or Bollywood movies not only famous in Asian continents like – Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan but also they are equally popular in European countries like – United States and UK. The Losers Of Film Critics

30-08-2011 by dewit

The title is catchy enough for you to get curious about the movie so I went ahead and watched it dropping all pretenses about action movies and just savored what the film has to offer. I was not disappointed quite frankly and far from getting bored I can say I was entertained. The movie packs a wallop that is, in the action part.

The movie did not pretend to be a blockbuster, far from being one, it just presented itself with all its flaws, shortcomings and yes explosive action. This is the kind of movie that you will watch just for the action itself which brings us to the reality about why we watch action flicks. The movie has lots of action, action, and more explosive shiny action complete with the slow-mo scenes.

There is nothing special about the plot either. It is the kind of plot laid down for this kind of action movie. To cut a long story short, The Losers are a bunch of CIA operatives tasked to kill a druglord but instead ended up having to make a decision to save innocent lives. They were considered dead by the Agency and were already laying low until a beautiful woman comes awaking them from the slumber and they are out to save the world from a megalomaniac villain trying to get his hands on some nuclear weapon and redeem themselves. Pretty much beaten for a script. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Do Some Versions Of The Movies Directly To DVD?

23-08-2011 by dewit

If you’re a true movie buff, or even just an enthusiastic fan, there’s a good chance at some point you waited for a movie that never came. With online movie databases, cinema goers now have early knowledge of their favourite directors’ and stars’ next projects. Online rental services also give us a much broader range of DVD choices. That means that now more than ever before we’re aware of just how many movies never make it to the theatres. If you’ve recently seen an unreleased gem and are wondering why it was never given the cinema release it seemingly deserved, here are just a few possible explanations.

No Budget – Quite frankly, it costs a lot to promote a theatrical release. While technology has revolutionised low-budget film making, it’s done nothing to overcome the costs of actually promoting and releasing a film in theatres. When you consider that movies like last year’s wildly popular low-budget hit, Paranormal, are made with little more than ,000, but that it takes tens of millions to promote and release them, it’s easy to see why some studios and producers simply don’t – or can’t – bother with a theatrical release.

Distribution Contract – With so many blockbusters coming out these days, it can be hard to get a distribution contract for a movie that has low income expectations.

Small Target Audience – Some movies are simply more profitable if they cut out the marketing and distribution expenses and go straight to DVD. For example, Disney has become the king of profitable straight-to-DVD releases. They know their market, and they know parents would rather buy the newest sequel than sit through it in a theatre.
